Mount Hell
The city of Potosi in Bolivia is dominated by the "Cerro Rico", the "Wealthy Mountain". Inside its flanks, the most fabulous veins of silver of all times where discovered, thus the name.
The mines made the fortune of Spain, but there was a price to pay. Thousands of Indians where forced to work and died in the mines. In order to replace them, the Spanish had to bring African slaves, the very firsts to come in the Americas. Many more were soon to follow...
