Becoming and Island (again)

This week-end, after years of work, and favored by an exceptional high tide, the iconic Mont Saint Michel became an island... again!
For a tidal island it originally was, until the mid-nineteenth century when a road was constructed which blocked the normal circulation of see water in the Bay. Sand accumulated and the ocean could not circle the Mount anymore.
